SOLVAir Select 200 and 150 Trona

SOLVAir trona is a naturally occurring mineral. This natural form of sodium sesquicarbonate has been mined for decades from the world’s largest and purest deposit of trona, located in the Green River Basin of Wyoming. This deposit holds over fifty billion tons of trona.

For over thirty years, it has been used to reduce acid gas stack emissions in industries ranging from electric power generation to cement manufacture and glass production.
Select 200 offers a high-assay, low-cost alternative to other acid neutralizers. Used as a dry sorbent injected into DSI systems, Select 200 forms a safe, non-corrosive waste product that will not damage equipment.

It is an effective technology for the removal of SOx, HCl and mercury (Hg).

Utilizing simple chemistry, Select 200 effectively removes a variety of acid gases. In temperatures above 275°F, it is readily transformed into soda ash (sodium carbonate). Soda ash then reacts with the acids to form neutral sodium salts.

Select 200 removes SO2, SO3, mercury (Hg), HCl and HF at higher rates than lime and costs less than sodium bicarbonate. Field testing shows removal rates of SOup to 90%. It has routinely achieved HCl removal of 95-99%. In addition, it is able to remove 20-70% of Hg used alone, and over 90% in combination of activated carbon. A mitigation rate of NOx of about 10-20% has been observed in some cases.

In many cases, the use of Select 200 improves pollution control efficiencies by enhancing the performance of an Electrostatic Precipitator.

A plant’s operating conditions will ultimately affect the performance of the dry sorbents in acid gas removal. The most important variables for high removal efficiency are: sorbent particle size, mixing or dispersion of the sorbent into the gas stream, retention time, injection temperature, and concentration.

Select 200 trona is a non-hazardous, non-flammable mineral.

Approximately 97% of the content is sodium sesquicarbonate (Na2CO3• NaHCO3• 2H2O). Sodium sesquicarbonate is made up of two alkaline chemicals, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and sodium carbonate (soda ash).

Select 200 is shipped in bulk via Pressure Differential (PD) railcars and pneumatic trucks from our plant site in Green River, Wyoming, and from terminals strategically located across the US. It is also packaged in 2000 lb bulk bags at our Green River facility.

SOLVAir Solutions brings the mine closer to market with the accessibility of its terminal east of the Mississippi. This puts SOLVAir Select 150 trona close to our customers’ plants and production facilities thus reducing lead time often necessary to deliver product to select locations. It also lessens the concerns of supply interruptions caused by severe weather, rail disruptions, and other problems. Select 150 is milled to specification for use in the same DSI system used for SOLVAir Select 200 trona.
